<![CDATA[Some Beach Somewhere Ltd. - Your Full Service Travel Agency - From the CEO (Chief Exploration Officer)]]>Tue, 06 Feb 2018 21:25:53 -0700Weebly<![CDATA[February 06th, 2018]]>Tue, 06 Feb 2018 21:32:42 GMThttp://somebeach.ca/from-the-ceo-chief-exploration-officer/february-06th-2018Yesterday was a hard day.
Usually, I'm at my computer by 6 in the morning, having a coffee and reviewing emails. I try to 'plan' my day - but we all know the road to hell is paved with good intentions. I receive phone calls, texts, FB messages from both existing clients, and new prospects who are inquiring about their pending vacation plans.
When someone 'new' contacts me - often by referral or by a blog or post that they've seen - I start with the usual pleasantries and then delve into questions. This is easier done in person, as I can explain the method to my madness...however, sometimes this communication is all through an email or a message on FaceBook. Here's my dilemma.....
Got any deals? Yes, what is it you're looking for? Just a getaway - need to get somewhere warm Ok, when were you looking at traveling? How many of you are going? What would you like to see, or did you have any ideas on where you want to go? I just want to know if there are any deals out there? Well, how much were you looking at spending? As little as possible.

Come on...work with me here. Would you go to a realtor, and say "I want a house", with no details as to where, how much, when, how big? The reason I ask all of these questions is to 'qualify' what destinations/properties might best suit you - you see, I've been doing this for a long time, and I can narrow this down in a hurry. I would much rather the conversation went more like this! :
Hi! I follow your page, and see that you have some great travel ideas. My family (2 adults and 2 children ages 5 and 8) want to get away - we have two possible departures - February 17th or March 13th for one week. We were hoping to keep within a budget of $5,000. My son is an avid skateborder, and my daughter is in gymnastics. We were hoping for a property that had a great kids club, on a good swimming beach. Do you have any suggestions?
Now THIS is a request I can get my teeth into! Please - if you take the time to contact me, then play by the rules....I'm NOT your personal search engine. I have all, if not more, of the properties you've already seen on the internet...I also have the knowledge and efficiency to narrow down what suits you best. My time is just as valuable as yours, and I have a desk of files I'm actively working on for people who recognize my value.
I value your business - and I work hard on your behalf.

<![CDATA[Why should you work with a Travel Consultant?]]>Mon, 11 Dec 2017 18:56:09 GMThttp://somebeach.ca/from-the-ceo-chief-exploration-officer/why-should-you-work-with-a-travel-consultantPicture
If I can just book it myself on the 'internet', why should I work with you? I hear this often, and I'm perplexed!

If you book your trip with me - you can reach me direct at deb@somebeach.ca, call me at 403-933-7957, text me at 403-968-3324, or message me on facebook at www.facebook.com/somebeach.ca - anytime before, during or after your trip. If you book online, who do you call? If you book online, and have a problem in destination, who do you contact?

You can also 'cut your own hair', but do you really want to? ...or, change the oil in your car? ...or, fix the dishwasher? Wait - maybe you DO want to do it all yourself...even just to save a few bucks? So - if I told you that it DOESN'T COST ANY MORE ...in fact, it usually SAVES YOU MONEY to work with an established Travel Professional, would you reconsider? This is my business - my very livelihood, and I've invested considerable time and ongoing training and updates to keep abreast of all things travel. With just a few questions, I can narrow down your search to meet your budget AND tick all the boxes on your 'wish list'. Truth is though - I ONLY make a living if I actually 'sell' you the product. Just like ALL of the online sites, I need to make that reservation, or I don't get paid. Our suppliers pay us a 'commission' for selling their product - just the same as the online agencies.
So please - don't just utilize my expertise for information, and then go book online. I have established relationships with tour companies, resorts, hotels, insurance companies and more - which only serve to enhance your overall experience. I advise you about Customs and Immigration, provide you a personalized step by step itinerary, and am here to address your concerns before, during and after your trip. All this - AND YOU DON'T PAY ANYMORE FOR IT.

We're small, but mighty - AND we're a local business in our small town. I support you -and hope that I can work with you for all of your travel plans in the future.

<![CDATA[GIVE THE GIFT OF TRAVEL THIS YEAR...]]>Mon, 11 Dec 2017 18:33:40 GMThttp://somebeach.ca/from-the-ceo-chief-exploration-officer/give-the-gift-of-travel-this-year
Christmas is only two weeks away! Can you believe it? Although, here in Southern Alberta - there's not a trace of snow - and we're experiencing record-breaking temperatures....
I'm back at my desk from our 9th Annual Mystery Trip - and what a trip it was! I'm already researching new destinations for our 10th Annual....oy vay! What a selection there is.... Stay tuned for our announcements.

In the meantime, let me play 'Santa's Helper', and give you some ideas on what YOU can give for Christmas this year...You'll be a 'shining star' with your significant other, family members or friends!

Right now - for LESS THAN $1500/PERSON, you can slip away for the holidays over Christmas! Departures every day leading up to the big day, are available at unheard of pricing! But if you can't get away 'last minute' - get in touch with us to look into later departures. Plan a cruise - go see the Polar Bears in Churchill, visit the Cloud Forest in Costa Rica, look into a 'once in a lifetime' journey for the graduate in your life, explore the Highlands of Scotland - either on an escorted coach, or on a fly/drive holiday, sign up for a cooking class in Tuscany, sail with some friends off the coast of Croatia, or...maybe just visit the wineries in the Okanagan.
Regardless of your travel dreams - we're here to help make them a reality!

<![CDATA[The Internet - friend or foe?]]>Tue, 11 Apr 2017 14:44:12 GMThttp://somebeach.ca/from-the-ceo-chief-exploration-officer/the-internet-friend-or-foeDinosaur. I'm a 'dinosaur' in the travel industry! I've been doing this since before computers - and have watched the evolution since the inception of 'the internet'. Yes indeed - you can find ANYTHING on Google....but, is it real?
Ever since the elections last year in the US, emphasis has been placed on 'fake news'...we see it everywhere. And yet, the very same model has been used in the travel industry for decades.....'realtor lingo' to describe non-descript properties (cozy, intimate, boutique, hidden gem et al) - as well as 'fake' reviews on a very popular travel reference site. Seriously, have some of these people even stayed at these properties? Perhaps....perhaps not....
As a professional Travel Consultant, I encourage my clients to do some research...after all, it's fun to sit with the family and peruse photos of tropical places. But when it's time for the rubber to hit the road, I also encourage them to contact me - this is my business. After 39 years, I KNOW if this would be a good fit, and chances are I personally know the 'local' representative to make requests on your behalf. I provide personal services that the 'internet' just can't grasp...and, all at the same (or better) price!
It's a 'no brainer'.....let's work together to find that perfect vacation ...I'm here for you before, during and after to provide knowledge, a personalized itinerary, and hints for your holiday - AND, you're 'supporting' someone local - not a faceless conglomerate.

<![CDATA[Group Travel - to go or not to go]]>Wed, 05 Apr 2017 20:34:17 GMThttp://somebeach.ca/from-the-ceo-chief-exploration-officer/group-travel-to-go-or-not-to-goI used to be a 'social butterfly'....not so much anymore. I live in a small town to get away from the hustle and bustle - the crowds. Years ago, if you had told me that I would not only be creating 'small group' adventures, but actually GOING with them, I might have thought you had one too many Caesars at lunch! But the clock keeps ticking, and here we are - so many years later, and embarking on our 9th Annual SBSW Mystery Trip! I'll tell you more about those later.....As well, I'm closing in our 2017 Scotland trip - a total of16 seats with only 4 left! A couple of years ago - I arranged a 'small group' trip to Ireland. I've actually found some comfort in traveling with friends, or - strangers who become friends. It's nice to not be 'joined at the hip' with just one person - with a small group, there always seems to be options - some want to shop, some want to golf, some want to sit back and take it all in. Now, I'm not keen on an 'action packed, every moment spoken for' kind of holiday....rather, I take a more 'laid back' approach - so while we're touring (if applicable), I try to incorporate as many 2-night stays as possible. After all, everyone wants to see the bottom of their suitcase at some point! This also means that if you want to absolve yourself of any planned activities for a day, you have the option of venturing out on your own.
I've also become aware of many "adventure/backpack' kind of group vacations as of late - some have been around for decades, but these new ventures really appeal to me. What a fabulous idea for those '20 somethings with a sense of wanderlust, who don't have anyone to travel with! A bit of structure, a whole LOT of fun, and new friends to continue on your journey if you decide....it's a win/win !
So yeah....groups? I guess I'm in....even if it's only dipping my toe in the water so far....Are you coming along
?
